Chapter 1

The Man Like The Sun

The jailers walked along in the torchlight,
One strong-man bound by them in chains;
He was stripped by love of all his might,
A man delivered up… a man betrayed.

They place him in a cell for the moment
As if he is their treasure to hide;
For the one they hold is The Man Like The Sun,
And they, men in need to see light;
They stumble forward, the gate is unlocked,
An unseen hand opens the cage -
The man in chains was bound to be mocked,
Bound to be scourged and displayed.
For now, they place him behind the stone gate
Until the fullness of time.
For he is a man appointed to wait,
And they, men in need of the light.

The strong-man stood and then he fell.
He is charged with running his race;
His jailers left him in the cold, cold empty cell
Alone in the dark waiting place.
His eyes had been taken, arrested and blind,
The man lay helpless upon the floor.
He thought himself lost, but soon he will find
Eternity has seen his story before.

His life threaded firmly with shadows of gold,
Royalty tight woven with the dark sayings of old;
His days are a teaching, to hear the parable words
And his steps a bright candle to light the wisdom we’ve heard.
So incline an ear to Samson, this son of the past!
To understand the Enigma is a most sacred task…

He was born for the King, and his death was gain-
This son right in the eyes of the One Lion slain.

The prison walls shuddered and the dank darkness wailed.
The air suddenly trembled as Heaven opened a veil;
Great Glory landed on the unworthy dirt floor
And massive broad shoulders came through Heaven’s bright door.
The Lion found His Samson, a man named for The Lord
And stood by his side, as they had both met before;
Even now in the shadow of Heaven’s holiest bred
“My God, why have you forsaken me?” the Man Like The Sun said.

The Lion answered softly, remembered the babe in His arms;
He wiped the blood from his brow and He lamented the harm.
“My son, you bear my name, my blood, and you wear my face.
You are eternity’s child - fearfully and wonderfully made.
I know you are scared, and I know you do not understand
It is the will of The LORD that My life is at hand.”

“You are as the stars,” said the Lion, “…made for seasons and signs.
These are covenant days, son, for your life reveals Mine.
I am heaven’s grandest display, and your days pour out speech.
Your every night reveals knowledge. Your very breath reveals Me.”

“I do not understand,” cried the man bound in chains.
“I was betrayed with a kiss and then put to shame!
A defender of the nations, now scorned and despised;
Poured out like water by those following great strength lies!
And when in truth, they took me,
Though I belong to The LORD.
Look! They bound my hands and my feet,
And I myself gave them the word!
Now my heart melts and blood drips from my brow-
My Lord!” prayed His Samson, “Be not far from me now!”

Blessed and a blessing because of how the stars shine,
Alive in a brilliant resonance alongside the dark sky:
Here is a clear constellation that God will provide
A story made for good - that many people be kept alive…
Unaware of the bright beacon his words bring to light,
And unrecognized by the faces that have passed his in the night,
Samson’s story is a riddle The LORD made to be seen
A treasure to find, a report to believe,
And though he himself was ignorant of all that he brought
Samson declares the hidden wisdom of God.

“Who are You, Lord?” Samson cried through his tears.
“I have heard Your voice, I swear, in my younger years;
I cannot see, but I can hear my God in Your words -
I but speak to You openly and I know that all Heaven has heard.”

“I am your Storyteller,” said the Lion, “and I am your story.
My canvas is light and for My Father’s great glory;
I am a child born, a son given with a Wonderful name.
Do not be afraid, child. I am the young Lion you’ve slain.”

Speechless and in darkness, Samson sat in his chains.
His mother had told him of an Angel with a Wonderful name…
He drifted up to Heaven after an accepted, full sacrifice.
“Be comforted,” said the Lion. “You are made right in My eyes.”

Samson knew the language, he remembered his bride.
In the days before the king, she was made right in his eyes.
She was a sinner, dark but lovely, and he loved her so;
Captivated him wholly though her heart’s made of stone.
He came down from Timnah, he came down from above
She didn’t know his strength nor did she deserve his love.
But God ordained a story and wrote it with the words of life;
A star drawn in the way of holy riddles, that more can be recognized.

The story of the Lion and The Man Like the Sun,
Look for the submission from Heaven and the mystery is One:
A pure Son from Heaven and the greatest Love’s wedding march
Heaven’s bread has a Name and He gave all His heart.
Wisdom is here hidden in a treasure so written,
Through the tribe made to shine truth;
They gave the Son to be given by the Word spoken to be lived in,
That the miracle may be recognized by you.

In an echo of the Ages, in the shadow of The Great,
Imprisoned and humbled before the living Lion that was slain,
Samson railed against the heartless, and in bitterness he wept
His strength was lost in all the darkness, and believed that he had nothing left;
“Do not despair,” soothed the Lion, “I am here to set you free!
Your marriage was from My Father, and every riddle you speak is Me.
I remember the work of your hands,” said the Lion, “delivered even as a sword:
Be comforted, child, and know it was the sovereign will of The LORD.”

Tenderly, the Lion folded Himself about the prisoner’s breast
And Samson reclined like at table against the great Lion’s noble chest.
“Place your hand on my scars,” said the Lion, “and remember Me well,
That I defeated death and the grave is our story to tell;
My child, I have come, and I am your rest,
Your shield, your strength, your great eagle’s nest.”

Confounded and calmed by the great kindness shown,
Samson sat in the darkness, no longer alone.
Though he is imperfect with a heart made of stone,
Though he is a sinner strayed a long way from home,
A strong tower arrived and opened its golden doors
That a blind man would find refuge in the name of The LORD.

The Great Lion stretched his arms ‘cross the sand
And Samson was hemmed in and before the marks at his hand.
“Hear now your father’s wise instruction,” said the Lion,
what the old dark riddles say:
Hear now the strong man’s parable, spoken by the Lion slain before his wedding day.”
