Samson: a Man Like the Sun
This poem is about Samson, the judge written about in the Old Testament. The poem begins with his betrayal: Delilah has tricked him into revealing his secret and the Philistines have arrested him. While in prison, an old acquaintance meets him in the dark and swears that his life, controversial as it may be, was not lived in vain. The visitor is the LION Samson slew in Judges chapter 14, and He has a Story to give Samson that will set the blind man free. As Scripture, Samson’s story has New Testament themes, and it contains Messianic echoes and foreshadowing. Jesus is alive in Samson’s story, and this poem is written to worship and appreciate the art God has made out of history…that Jesus be recognized through Scripture. This is art to say “Thank You.”
